When it comes to the automotive industry, BMW is undoubtedly
one of the most-known acronyms in the world. In a nutshell, BMW stands for
Bayerische Motoren Werke, or simply Bavarian Motor Works, and it is a
world-renowned manufacturer of motorcycles, four-wheeled cars as well as
airplane engines. What makes BMW so popular and respected in the automotive
industry is its commitment to excellence and quality, and it all started almost
a century ago, back in 1916. It was then when Bayerische Motoren Werke was founded,
and it was also then when engines have entered a whole new era. BMW initially
started as an engine-focused company that studied and tried to enhance the
performance of engines as we all know them - slowly but surely, the company
moved from basic motorcycle engines to airplane engines that would
revolutionise air transport.<o:p></o:p></div>

It all started with Karl Friedrich Rapp's ambition to
improve and reinvent the engines and to make them more powerful than ever before
- and it was also Rapp who actually laid the groundwork for BMW. Right before
the first World War, the demand for high-performance aircraft engines has
sky-rocketed, and this is how Karl Friedrich Rapp's ascension to success
started. The BMW company is actually the direct result of merging three
different manufacturing companies in one: The Fahrzeugfabrik Eisenach which was
located in Thuringia, the Bayerische Flugzeugwerke located in Bavaria (which
specialised in aircraft engines) and, last but not least, the Rapp Motorenwerke
company which specialised in vehicle engines - the latter soon became
Bayerische Motorenwerke.<o:p></o:p></div>

The first edition of the logo, the word “Mercedes”
surrounded by an ellipse, appeared on cars manufactured by Daimler, its
predecessor, in 1902. After a while, the company introduced a new brand logo in
1909 — the glorious star of three points. Technical Director of Deutz, Gottlieb
Daimler, designed it. He drew this badge on a postcard, which he mailed to his
wife as far back as in 1872, vowing that one day this image would become the
symbol of a car giant.<o:p></o:p></div>

He created it as the attribute of class and perfection,
meaning that three points of the star stood for the Mercedes’s dominance over
land, air and sea, as its vehicles run in all the three environments. It was

The emblem was put into a circle with four little stars above the
circumscription “Mercedes” on its bordure in 1916.<o:p></o:p></div>

Henry Ford innovated mass-production techniques that became standard, with Ford, General Motors and Chrysler emerging as the “Big Three” auto companies by the 1920s. Manufacturers funneled their resources to the military during World War II, and afterward automobile production in Europe and Japan soared to meet demand. The taillights (already LEDs) have a new shape and new innards as well, although only brand aficionados will notice the difference. The front and rear bumpers also are restyled, bringing them visually closer to the 4 Series.</span></div>

Evidently the criticisms of the current car's dynamics have been heard, because BMW has made several chassis changes that it says produce "significantly enhanced dynamic capabilities." We like the sound of that. Retuned power steering, new front struts, and revised rear dampers are said to bring "reduced roll, improved directional stability, and a higher level of steering precision." In the engine room, the current N20 turbocharged fours in the 320i and the 328i remain, but the N55 turbocharged inline-six is jettisoned in favor of what's called the B58. The new turbo six—again 3.0 liters—is from BMW's modular engine family, which can serve in three-, four- and six-cylinder applications. (In Europe, the three-banger is the new 3 Series base engine, an indignity the U.S. market is spared.) Once again, there's also a four-cylinder diesel in the 328d.</div>

With the new six comes a new model designation: 340i. BMW engineers tell us that the new turbo six is a better-sounding and more-satisfying engine than the outgoing 335i's N55. We'll withhold judgment until we've driven one, but the fact that BMW has recognized the issue is promising. The new turbo six makes 320 horsepower at 6500 rpm; peak torque is 330 lb-ft, arriving at 1380 rpm. BMW's claimed zero-to-60 times for the 340i are 4.8 seconds with rear-wheel drive and 4.6 seconds with xDrive. (Those figures are 0.3- and 0.2-second quicker than BMW's corresponding claims for the 2015 335i.)</div>

This has resulted in it/him producing one of the greatest and most disruptive cars of the 21st century, the Model S. It also seems to constantly land it/him in an antagonistic relationship with all of the other useless incompetents in the world who are not Tesla/Elon Musk, including The New York Times, Chrysler, and the National Automobile Dealers Association, the last of which he has infuriated with his practice of selling cars directly to consumers, which is in direct opposition to NADA's monopoly on doing so. The Electrovan had a top speed of 70 MPH. It could accelerate from 0-60 MPH in 30 seconds and had a range of approximately 150 miles. Because of safety concerns, the Electovan was only used on company property.</div>

After the GM Electrovan was built, tested and shown off to journalists in 1966, the project was scraped, largely because it was cost-prohibitive. stainless spoked steering wheel with a S-22 center, upgraded carpeting, unique
rear quarter panel emblems, undercoating, and special stainless full wheel
covers. The standard powertrain was the 170 cubic inch inline six cylinder
engine coupled with the two-speed Comet Drive automatic. Sometimes it's
difficult to find replacement auto parts for classics like the Comet. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
